Vented Hot Water Cylinders: How They Work

1 July 2026 | Leyton Boilers

A vented cylinder is fed from a cold water tank in the loft, using gravity to supply the hot water cylinder. They are simpler in design and often cheaper to maintain than unvented systems.

They work well in properties with existing tank infrastructure and moderate hot water demand. Annual checks on immersion heaters, thermostats, and pipe insulation help maintain performance.

If you experience poor pressure or recurring airlocks, our engineers can assess whether repairs, upgrades, or conversion to unvented would better suit your household.
